At Shadow Mountain Academy the value of the "teachable moment" is never wasted.

The extensive programming available includes varied art mediums, varied life skills, athletic and outdoor recreation. Recovery is the primary objective and we strive to incorporate the principles into varied experiences and activities to facilitate competencies and mastery of recovery skills in all areas of living.

Learning how to enjoy life without drugs, alcohol, and destructive behaviors is a significant area of focus of recovery for this age group. In many instances, the most significant social, recreational and relational experiences have been associated with drug, alcohol and other self-defeating pursuits. We deliberately target this mal-adaptive experience by replacing old habits with the introduction and regular exposure to neutral activities and hobbies.

Habitat for Humanity - At Shadow Mountain Academy community service is an important aspect of our curriculum. Shadow Mountain Academy is a recovery community and we extend that concept into the Taos community, helping private citizens (in partnership with local organizations). Our program provides many volunteer hours to HFH International. HFH is an international non-profit organization that seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness.
